March For Fun is a good beginning composition to give students a limited amount of independent counting. For the most part, all instruments play the same rhythms, but at one point, the lower voices have the melody and upper voices play an accompaniment with a few rests. Ranges and rhythms are very limited, and you can concentrate on playing fundamentals.
