The shifting tonalities of Solemn March provides much harmonic interest and makes Solemn March unique and interesting in character. The main theme is presented in Cm and on the repeat of the theme a lovely countermelody is added. The lower voices come to the front in the 2nd strain in Fm and this leads to the Eb major trio section. After the trio the piece returns the original Cm tonality and comes to a rousing end. Students will enjoy rehearsing and performing Solemn March.
