Tom Tucker

Fortress 442 is an overture in ABA form which programmatically depicts a fortress rising above a jagged landscape. This is a great contest number which will excite students and audiences. "Fortress 442" is playable by young high school bands as well as skilled middle school bands.

This is an exciting piece with interesting parts throughout the band. A slow middle section features some woodwind solos, followed by a dramatic ending! Fun and challenging yet manageable for an intermediate HS Band or upper level Middle School group. Doubled parts allow for retaining a solid sound with limited instrumentation.

This piece would be so much better with percussion parts that match the level of the winds. Too many percussion rests. The bass drum needs more than quarter notes. Change the cymbal and bell parts to other percussion instruments for some highlights to keep them active. Rewrite the percussion parts, and I will buy a copy.
