Copycat Convoy features imitated melodic motifs, one following the other in groups that include all instruments. The piece is a Grade 2 with a duration of about 3:05. After a two-measure introduction, a legato section (measures 3 to 32) begins with clarinets 1 and 2 introducing one of two main themes. Ensure a tempo of bpm=110, and rehearse for maintaining a steady tempo. Then alto saxophone and trumpets 1 and 2 introduce the second theme, followed by imitative phrases in all sections.
