Beginning Band

Caravan, written for beginning level students, provides a wealth of important teaching material for developing young musicians. All sections get an opportunity to play a melody and ranges are limited, staying within the concert Bb scale. Clarinets do not go over the break and highest note for the brass section is concert Gb. Augmented percussion instrumentation includes timpani, tambourine and gong. Caravan is the perfect choice for your beginning band's Spring Concert.

Beginning band performed this for adjudication last week. They absolutely loved the song. Very well done, good for teaching phrasing and dynamics. Accidentals throughout also reinforce teaching of accidentals.

Played it at a school function last week after one rehearsal. The beginning band members and the more experienced players gave it their tick of approval. Good piece for linking articulation, expression, rhythm etc. to the exotic picture of long, soft-plodding camel-lines, precious goods, colourful robes and shimmering sand dunes. Used finger cymbals rather than the gong, suggested.
