Around the Circle

arr. Alan Gregory

Grade 3

Penned in 1906 by American composer George Rosenkrans "Around the Circle" is akin to the marches of Sousa and King. This traditional march features technical challenges and flowing harmonies. This edition by Alan Gregory uses standard band instrumentation and loses none of the excitement of the original. Performers and audiences will be stimulated by this stirring march.

Around the Circle

I work with a homeschool band and we don’t always have standard instrumentation in our groups. This selection is a fun piece that is a great representation of a march/galop (a.k.a. Circus march). It works at a slower tempo, but is especially fun at a bright tempo mm=132) Written in 2/4, it provides easier reading for students who may struggle with cut-time. The arrangement is adaptable for flexible instrumentation, but provides full voicing/ harmonies, melody lines, dynamics and figurations that provide teaching points for technique and performance of the march style. We are enjoying learning it for our Spring Concert.
