| Thermosphere is one of a series of compositions written for young bands, each deriving it's name from a layer of the atmosphere and each dedicated to a grandchild. It is an ideal level I festival or concert selection for the young band. It is harmonically and rhythmically interesting while providing the diversity of styles, techniques and dynamic contrast looked for by adjudicators, students, and audiences alike. The Clarinet 2 part is entirely below the break. The bass line is strengthened in the bass clarinet, baritone saxophone, bassoon and euphonium parts which provides a solid foundation in the event that the band lacks a tuba. Mr. Beckham has taken care to address the instrumentation concerns of many of our smaller schools. |
