Grade 1 |
Eli's Walk is written in a style reminiscent of the big band swing music of the 1940's. Inspired by the antics of the composer's two year-old grandson, this piece should delight audiences and performers alike. A familiar bass line introduces the primary melody played by the trumpet section at meas. 9. This melody is restated in muted form at meas. 73. (Harmon mutes will create the best effect) The drum break at meas. 65 should be performed "a la Gene Krupa" is followed by a layering of complimentary melodies which build into a "shout chorus" effect at meas. 89. Keep the Hi-Hat prominent throughout and make sure the eighth notes have a pronounced swing feel. Consider substituting vibraphone for bells to create a more authentic rhythm section sound.
